The Battery in the Key Fob of my Passat has "Died"... its the 3 button one...IF I fit new batteries will the Car have to go to a VW Dealer so that the Fob can be re-coded?... there appears to be nothing about fitting new batteries in the Handbook, or if there is I can't find it.

I've had to recode the key to my Golf a few times after putting it in my pocket with my phone. I think you also have to do it if you press the button quite a few times when the car isn't around to hear it, so they get out of sync. It's really easy and it is in the manual. I think what you do is open the car with the key (the old fashioned way!) and then with the key still in the hole, press the button to unlock the car. As for the battery, you'd probably pick one up in a photo place or chemists or Maplins for sure.
