dodgy diesel tdci

hi can anyone help me i have a ford mondeo 2 litre tdci 92k while i am driving it seems to cough and lets out quite a bit of smoke,,,,it feels like the engine is laboured ( juddery but only @ the normal cruiseing speed) take off is fine and starts great also no engine warning light please help thanks

Sounds as though the fuel filter is starting to block, has it been changed recently,? if not change it, might as well do the air filter while your'e at it.
Although this is not related to your problem i notice that the car has don 92k, has timing belt been changed, ? if not better get that done also,

It's difficult to answer as you have not given any recent service info. The obvious is fit new air filter and fuel filter if you haven't done so for a while.

For what its worth I heard of similar symptoms being fixed by servicing the EGR (exhaust gas recycle valve) which was found to be sticking.
EGR valve is a good option after the checking the other filters , although that should throw up the managment light.
