A friend has an 'R' reg Nissan Micra that is very prone to slide under braking or when cornering, in wet conditions. She is a careful and fairly slow driver. Is this a characteristic of the car, or could the tyres be the problem? They are all over the legal depth limit of 1.6mm.

When was the last time she checked her tyre pressures were correct? Under inflated tyres are often a cause of loss of grip.
Worth a trip to the petrol station for a look see!
i have a Hyundai (nearly new),did the same i changed the tyres from what was on to continental eco3 they are one of the best for small/med cars it made a hell of a difference
and as kirra says always check your tyre pressures weekly when u get fuel, don't forget the small area of tyre contact is the only thing keeping you on the road look after them, pas this on to your mate
I once made the mistake of buying 'budget' tyres to save money on an old Peugeot 309.

It gave rise to bad understeer in the wet. I'll never do that again.
really does sound like budget tyres, even the tyre dealers call them 'deathslides' or 'ditch finders' , says it all
