meant to say when it gets to 2000rpm it chucks out white smoke and misfires yet when its in tick over its fine

Either dirt and oil in the distributor cap or the spark plug high tension leads are failing (breaking down)

or a leaking head gasket - does the coolant need topping up regularly?
