Parking outside double yellow lines

What is the legal position if you park a vehicle off the road marked with double yellow lines, where your vehicle is in fact on the verge of the road, not blocking traffic and fully to the left of the yellow lines? Is it same as if parked on the actual highway, i.e. an offense?

double and indeed single yellow lines apply to both sides of the kerb, regardless of pavement width.

As R1Geezer states, double (and single) yellow lines apply right up to the edge of the carriageway (which, in law, is not the kerb but where the verge or footpath meets, for example, the wall of a house or the edge of a garden).

Further, even if there are no yellow lines at all, it's always a 'ticketable' parking contravention to park even a single wheel on a verge or footpath in an urban area.
