If i were to get some private number plates would I expect to see a rise in my insurance?

Also, If they are a new number plate can I put it on an old car? Or the other way around in fact?

Thanks in advance ladies and gents.

theres no reason it should affect your insurance, certainly never affected mine.
You can put an old plate on a new vehicle but not the otherway around.
a private plate doesnt effect insurance rates.

You cannot put a plate on a car that would suggest that the vehicle is newer than it actually is.

you need to remember to exchange your tax disc with the new plate on it.
As stated above, your insurance premium should not be effected, but some ins. companies may charge you an admin fee to apply the change. when you buy a private plate you recieve a retention certificate. Once you apply to transfere your number to you car you have to surrender your logbook and mot. you will then recieve your new mot, tax disk and a certificate in the post, usually 5-7 days later. the certificate only enables you to buy the plasic plates. At this point you are to put your new number on your car and inform your insurance about the change. your log book wil follow a few weeks later.
