Does anyone know how long the DVLA normally take to process the V5 form when you have sold your car privately? Sold my car to a guy a few weeks ago and the next day he parked in a Red Route in Camberwell. Transport for London are trying to make me pay the fine and the DVLA still have not acknowledged that the ownership was transferred the day before. Has anyone any ideas what I can do about this. TFL have written to me twice already even though I have explained the situation.

I got a fine 11 months after I sold my car, however it was quashed fairly quickly. I had a letter from the dvla which stated the date I sold it so you sould be ok.
Send evidence of sale to TFL by registered post.
It's the date you sold it that's important , assuming you sent of the log book with the correct transfer date and both signatures you should be fine.

Thanks all - think I will just have to wait now. Have written again to TFL - even with evidence they seem to be harrassing me. DVLA unfortunately have not yet confirmed receipt of the V5 form that I sent to them, with both our signatures which doesnt help!
