What details do I have to tell the DVLA?

If it is a like for like engine,nothing.If it is a different size or modified in any way you have to give them all the details about it.

you have to tell your insurance company of any modifications.

im asuming you are talking about the engine serial no-? not 100% but i dont think you are under any obligation to inform them although it wouldnt do any harm updating the V5.

you do have to inform the DVLA of a change in your engine!

About 2 years ago a mate of mine put a reconditioned engine in his car,he telephoned dvla on wether he had to notify this.He was told if it was a like for like engine,no action would be needed,if it was a different size engine or modified from original manufacturers specification it would have to be recorded in the log book or V5 form.
