It is an inherent premise of the play that Godot will never arrive.
Godot represents the element of the human condition that we are all seeking, but can ultimately never achieve.
In the same way, the characters painted around the top of the urn in Keats's Ode On A Grecian Urn ...
... are forever destined to pursue each other, and can never catch each other.
But Keats found comfort in that, believing that obtaining one's desires can only ultimately lead to disappointment.
That belief was later encapsulated in the idea that ... "It is better to travel hopefully than to arrive"
Beckett, however, proposes that we will only find a nihilistic existence, regardless of whether or not our goals are achieved.
In other words ... it becomes irrelevant whether Godat arrives or not.
This, however, highlights the pointlessness of waiting for "Him"
