Should my ABS brakes make a heavy metallic rattle when applied. If not what could be the cause of the problem?

There is a shudder as you say but the rattling seems like something is about to fall off.

The ABS used to shudder on my old car too, nothing to worry about!

The rattle though, it doesn't sound normal! It maybe be due to the weather :-/
Hi, a few things can happen here, cracked disk, Brake Pad retaining spring dropped off causing the pads to rattle, If poss SAFELY jack up the front of the car make sure it's in Neutral, select any gear & ask someone to brake with you at the wheels to detect which side it is, then remove the road wheel and check what has been stated.
Kwik Fit do a free brake inspection and there's no obligation to buy anything from them. It takes about 45 minutes and is thorough.

Thanks I will take them up on this
Rov, Kick Fit, they fit tyres they are not known to do a Mechanics job, or should I say a Time served mechanic!!!

That may be TWR and I have always wondered about some of these franchises as they often seem to find problems that never existed. But I believe quickfit now do MOTs so they must have some mechanical experience?
