My wife has just had a new odometer installed due to precarious readings.  The garage have installed it, but it shows as having 0 miles.  Is this legal?

Yes, but you must declare when you sell the vehicle, or for any 'official' reason (eg insurance claim) that this is not the original odometer and that previously you had covered 50,000 miles (or whatever). Of course, whether you actually do this is up to you and your conscience!!
