if i put £30 of unleaded in the car last friday and on the reciept it says 27.55 L @ 108.9p, and I have done 130 miles now, how many mpg is my car doing and how many miles left with that petrol should i have left in theory?

you won't know dot until the fuel gauge needle goes back to the same position as before you filled it up.regards lowry

if the needle is back to where you started when you filled the tank then ,yes it is a maths thing, and if i was a bit more mathematically minded i could have worked it out but i'm sure some people are working it out as i type

I know that is is meant to do 36mpg, I am trying to find out if there is any great difference ebetween the factory estimated MPG and the actual MPG. It's an automatic and someone on here today mentioned the extra petrol their auto was using.

You sounded a little irritated, dot, by lslowry's initial posting, but your initial question didn't actually give any indication of where the fuel gauge was before you filled up.
The litres to gallons converter is available on google and the rest is just a maths thing

if you're just knocking round town, the petrol consumption will be a lot more than using it on long interrupted runs

There is insufficient information to make a meaningful calculation.

Fill the car to the brim, and reset the trip odometer.

Run the car until it is nearly empty, refill it to the same level as before and note the mileage.

You now have an accurate measure of fuel used for that mileage.

To calculate litres to gallons multiply by 0.22

I don't think you can draw any conclusions about the car's MPG rate based on such a small set of data and given the margins of error involved in judging when the needle is relative to its original position.
I'm not sure where the price/litre comes into this.

no- you've done (you think) 130 miles on 27.55 litres. Multiply the litres by 0.22 to get gallons (6.061). Then work out MPG by division (21.4 mpg)
