Hi. My son was caught without insurance, and as yourself it was a mistake as we thought he was insured. They took his car, took his licence and will have 6 points when it comes back. It is an automatic revication of a licence if in the first 2years of having a licence, which means new test and everything. Hope things workout.

I assume there's a lot more to this than you've told us.
Why was the insurance cancelled?
How long had you had the insurance?.
Was he listed as a named driver?
What ages are you both?
Had yyou paid the premiums/instalments on time?
Are you insured to drive an ddo you have a full licence?
Are you disqualified?
What what your mistake (you mentioned "my mistake").

Why would they do that? They would contact you to say something was wrong (like, you haven't paid the premium), not just cancel it without telling you. I don't understand how the police pulled you for having no insurance, you could be pulled and ask to produce insurance, did they spot you by number plate recognition?
ooh, that's dodgy changing banks if you have direct debits likely to come out - companies' records take a while to catch up, always worth leaving a bit of money in the old bank just in case something like this happens. However - I don't think they would just cancel, they would write to you or even email you to say that you were defaulting, they wouldn't just rip it up without telling you. How long ago did you change banks, it sounds as if you haven't paid for more than one month?

i had just made a payment through d/d then few days later called insurance to change for the following month but they kept my old details on file. next one would have been due next week. have got new insurance to get my car out of compound really dont want him to lose his licence why didnt they give me points what will happen will he get summons
I don't know the detail of what might happen, caila, but I'm sure someone else might advise you - but I fear that you might also get into some trouble firstly for not having insurance yourself and secondly for letting someone without insurance drive your car. Ignorance of the policy being cancelled is not a mitigating fact in your favour.
