needs reprograming, no way around it...would defeat its purpose if you could
If you have the old barrel Dave, take it to your local Dealers they can then issue you with a replacement .
however you get a replacement key, ie new barrel or cut to key number it will have a new chip in it, this then needs coding to the vehicle...there is no option.

have old barrel, its a bit er drilled out, bought a second hand barrel and key from ebay, fitted perfect but stil wont start
Is the key No on the Barrel Dave? If not as Chas states.
sorry, can only keep repeating myself, it will need coding / reprograming, there is NO way around it...you can not buy a pre-programmed key, thats the whole point of the security system, the same as any modern vehicle, hence why vehicles are no longer stolen except with the keys....
The only other possibility is if you had bought the cars ECU module along with the s/hand barrell then theres no guarantee.
