I have a 2000 Volvo V70 classic 170bhp; the heater fan on the air conditioning has suddenly stopped blowing; the electrics seem ok.
I am getting conflicting advice:
1) That if the gas is low, the heater fan automatically stops blowing, and that re-gassing will cure it. Is this correct?
2) That the heater fan requires a new motor, for which Ii have been quoted £370 including VAT but excluding labour to fit - is this a rip-off?

Answers to one or both queries much appreciated, thanks RW

1) I doubt it.
2) I doubt it, and 2a) of course it is! You don't buy new parts for 2000 Volvos, you check ebay for breaker parts.
3) Check the fan motor rheostat (big encapsulated resistor, prob fitted in heater plenum or behind front panel) It is most likely think to start with.
Ask again over at the Volvo Owners Club forums - V70 section. This is a common issue and there are several causes/fixes, usually the resistor pack. A quick search there should reveal several threads on this subject. Come on over - we don't bite!

BTW, it's all located behind the glove box and pretty easy to access!
V70 W reg, fan heater stopped working. Now it starts for 1-2 seconds, then stops and the on/off lights of AC unit start flashing.
Is this the same problem?

Thanks for any help on how to deal with this.
