Yes. So long as that's the terms, and you're aware of this at time of buying, it's very very common.
The use of signs and advertisements stating 'sold as seen' (thus appearing to indicate that the customer will not have the statutory rights which he is always entitled to) is a criminal offence under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.

The maximum penalty for the offence is 2 years imprisonment and/or an unlimited fine.

I bow to Chris on this. It's very common here mind, even sections in the dealer ads in the local press for 'sold as seen' motors
Perhaps you're in Lancashire then, Whickerman? ;-)

Stage 3 (From 6 months to 6 years after purchase):
As Stage 2 but the purchaser must show that (based upon the balance of probabilities) that the cause of the problem is an inherent fault.

Any retailer who makes a statement which appears to take away your statutory rights (as stated above) is committing a criminal offence under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008. The maximum penalty for that offence is 2 years imprisonment and/or an unlimited fine.

Please ignore the last post above. I put it in the wrong thread! :-(
