I had one (the older Honda Civic shape)

It blew a head gasket.

That's how most of them die.
I had one, they are a good car but being a rover they normally have head gasket problems.

The diesel is a goodun. BMW.
Make sure transmission is sound and makes no odd noises.

the one im going to see tomorrow - T reg, petrol 1.4, 71000 miles, £850 buy it now, and judging by all your responses, it's going to be a bit of a nightmare if i decide to buy it?
look for oil leaks around the bottom of the cylinder head, look for water in the oil and oil in the water, any doubts walk away..
You can find something with a better reputation for that money Benny.
I had a succession of three Rover 200's (from new) between 1995 and 2004, the final one being the 2 litre diesel.
They were allocated as company cars and I was clocking up about 25,000 per year.
Maybe I was lucky as none of these cars gave me any problems, and the diesel was an absolute joy to drive.

okey dokey, thanks for the advice, the only reason it would be ideal for me is because it is close to me and it is bang on my budget and it was also one of the cars i was looking at getting originally. i shall keep an eye out for any problems when i go to see it tomorrow. Thanx guys.

I bought 214SLI new in 1992 & sold it to a cousin in 2000. He continued to used it daily until about 12 months ago when it went to the garage in the sky. No cylinder head problems or major problems of any kind during its life as far as I know. Not really sure why he try and get a few quid for it.
