I have a diesel PT cruiser. It started letting out a puff of smoke when i put my foot down lightly. not sure if it was white, blue or grey, but it definately wasnt black. Now it doesnt have any power as though the turbo isnt kicking in and there is no smoke whatso ever. Im guessing its the turbo. My question is, is there anything i can do myself before i take it to a machanic? And is it going to do more damage if i drive it like it is? And also what is a new turbo likely to cost fitted? Thanks

Has this problem just started? have you just put fuel into the Cruiser, did you check if the fuel was fuel & not water ( Its known to happen) Open the bleed screw / valve & bleed the system & check the contents.
Not much more harm can be done now.
Sounds like seal has gone and bearing dry/worn.
You should take to a turbo specialist first to assess damage.
If it's a new turbo, that is likely to be totalling £1000 odd for job, so ask if they do a recon. service.

Thanks for the answers. The puffs of smoke started a couple weeks ago, but got worse the last 3 days.... fuel is fine, and the car starts and runs fine now, you wouldnt know anything was wrong until you put your foot down and theres absolutely no power..... but the smoke has stopped!
Hi Aagain, try changing the fuel in-line filters.
