my inner wheels are wearing down. The alignment is set correctly. It has been suggested that the front suspension may have dropped

Its the camber that affects the wearing of the inner or outer edges of the tyres, not the alignment.  The camber can be adjusted or it may have become out-of-neutral due to a suspension drop.  The suspension drop may have been caused by worn bushes or worn out dampers (shock absorbers).  Inner wheel wear is common on cars that have had their suspension lowered further than it really should be.

Wheel alignment can cause tyre wear but only if it's severe so that the tyres are scrubbing.  Front wheel drive cars are often set to 'toe in'.

Type pressures should be the initial thing to check.  Over-inflation causes wear in the centre, whereas under-inflation causes wear on the edges.

If you have a faulty spring or suspension strut then this can affect the camber of the suspension.  This too can cause tyre wear.
