Motorists should have to display a current insurance disc as well as a tax disc.

Only DVLA will be interested i am afraid.
Is it parked on a road or off road?
its between him and the dvla
Question Author
its parked on the road in a parking bay
Ring DVLA, give them the make, reg. no and location and they will come round and clamp it.
He will have to tax the car AND pay £100 release fee within 24 hours or the money goes up/it will get towed
i take it that he has barred you ? if he hasn't he soon will do

It has been reported on line by 2 different people. The last time somebody was reported on line for having no car tax, it took at least 4 months before anything was actually done, so that was a total of approx 6 months the person got away with no car tax.
You can ring DVLA anonymously - they won't ask for your details

Ha, no I have not been barred, he has 3 cars, 2 taxed and one not, one of them expires end of July 10.
they wont have got away with it for six months - the fine will have been backdated
and put it this way, would your employers care if someone contacted them and said you had no car tax?
I twice reported a van using the DVLA site but certainly it was still untaxed on the road a couple of months later.

If he has no tax, has he an mot? and how can he insure his car? and what if its his car that hits you!!
you can quite easily insure/mot your car for a year, but have the tax run out 1/3 1/4 1/8 thrugh the year
Question Author
....find me a wheel clamp!...
I reported someone whose tax had run out 3 months previously - the car was clamped 4 days later.
i don't know if it made a difference because I phoned rather than use the website....

....yes, it was lovely chatting to the DVLA on the phone.....job completed...
Quietly let the local plod know?
joeluke - plod no longer deal with out of date car tax
So who's policing it then?

The eagle-eyed general public?
