Is 'Top gear' in need of attention.?

A few weeks ago I posted my view on BBC's programme 'Top Gear' and had some interesting responses.

This evening I switched off the TV in disgust after only about ten minutes into the programme.

How many of us are interested in cars that can do over 240 miles per hr when we are restricted to a speed of 70 in the UK.? Furthermore, how many of us can afford a Bugatti.??

No doubt Jeremy Clarkson is being paid a ridiculous fee for what has become a ridiculous programme.

Top gear, was dull and boring and Clarkson with his wittering rambles and comparisons, became very tiresome. With the introduction of May and Hammond. it is now entertaining so I have to agree with vivandorron and Captain Kirk that the experiments of which is faster did become a bit extreme to race a rat, against Ricky butcher's IQ across London) is a bit extreme. we pay for it, horses for courses we like it.

I think the presenters now just enjoy all-expenses paid jaunts at licence fee payers expense in the same way as the travel show presenters.

No.

For factual entertainment it can't be beaten.

I will never have the wherewithal to be able to afford a Veyron and will never have the opportunity to drive one, so I was interested in last night's piece on the Veyron.

Add to this two major A list mega stars, who were very entertaining, and the excellent piece about Senna made for a great show.

This is an entertainment show based around cars - people tuning in thinking they are going to get a dry review about the latest jap-o-box are delusional cretins.

I don't actually watch it myself, OK rarely. I do however find it interesting and amusing. the people who don't like it are probably really not interested in cars in general.

if you are a car fanatic you will love this show, I have many friends who drive flash cars and they think it is the best show since sliced bread, that is who the show is aimed at, not the average motorist.

In reality every programme you see on the TV has a specific target audience, Top Gear is aimed at petrol heads.
If I don't like the programme on TV I just change channels,
Top Gear has a massive following, they must be doing something right.

There are plenty of programs on Ice road truckers, moving houses on tractors and space flight.

I think few of us are ever likely to be invoved in these but nobody protests

There are certainly car shows that are more practically based on the other channels but none are even remotely close in popularity

This argument is really a disguise for what is I suspect a judgment on the sort of "laddish" values the Top Gear show portrays.

Personally I think it's getting tired and really predictable but then it's been around for so long and there is an endless supply of teenage boys as a new audience.

I do sometimes wonder though if one day a bystander will get seriously hurt - I'd hate to be in charge of health and safety for that show. I know most is faked but when you see a 5 meter structure grafted to a citroen being driven down an A road you have to wonder

the 3 presenters are rubbish at trying to make the banter amongst themselves seem impromptu and not scripted

I agree with the "Top Gear should show supercars" posters.

If I want to know what an ordinary car is like, I can just go and try one out.

I want to watch sexy dream machines getting blatted round airfields.

It's silly, it's fun and yes it is ridiculous. No I am never going to buy a Bugatti Veyron but I am interested at how far technology has come to make it go that damn fast. There are many many programmes I don't watch on tv and most are on BBC 1, BBC2, ITV & 5. What do I care about paranormal goings on? What do I care about how fat certain people are? What do I care about 'soaps'? What do I care about all the antiques shows we have on tv? - how many do we need? (I do watch antiques road show sometimes but why are there so many other shows?)

I don't but they are obviously entertaining to someone otherwise they would not show it. All I can suggest is, if you don't like it don't watch it like me and all of the above.

A lot of those slagging it off seem to be under the impression It's a car show. It's an entertaiinment show based around motoring and I for one found the old Top gear totally dull. I mean we alll need bit of excapism and I couldn't give a h1te about comparisons of the lates rep mobile that some seem to want.Yes they go on about cars that most can't afford and have challenges but I find that entertaining and so do most of the world as TG is sold both as the show itself and as a franchise all over the world. It brings in much more than it costs and subsdises sh1te liike Eastenders etc. So stop knocking it.

is that what all you are complaing really want? And to those who are moaning about the license fee it actually earns millions for the Beeb through slaes to other countries.

I do agree the format is becoming a bit 'staid' but it still has legs.

I still really enjoy it for light hearted entertainment, except that Richard Hammond has gone strange and would be better employed as the next Dr Who!!

I agree Oscardoodles! If you don't like it then turn it off. It is funny , interesting and if I wanted to be bored with tatty old cheap cars, there's plenty of places to look. 'Top Gear' is the best show on tv at a time when all we get is idiotic programmes such as 'big brother' which you have to have the mentality of a 5 year old to watch. Sure, some of the gags are rehearsed, but don't all entertainers rehearse their script before going on stage? They make the majority of the population laugh and no-one can say that's a bad thing!
