sat nav route
hello,
Can anyone tell me why when travelling back from my friends i set my satnav from enfield(north london) to glasgow(take me home setting) and it took me up the a1 motorway to scotch corner, across the a66 on to the m6 it took nearly 8 hours and this was on the 'optimum' setting, looking back on it should it not have just took me m25,m1,m6,m74.
i travel a lot from milton keynes on this route(visiting family) and can do it in about 6 hours,is it to do with the setting or where i stated from.?

The AA route planner quotes central Enfield to central Glasgow as 401.9 miles and gives the route you've suggested would have been best. However adding a 'via' point of Scotch Corner Services only takes the total distance up to 404.1 miles, using the route your satnav gave you. (i.e. just 2.2 miles further). So, in terms of distance, there's very little difference in it (although the AA site does give the former journey time as 6 hours 37 minutes and the latter as 7 hours 12 minutes).
