what does it mean?

what does it mean when your car feels as though you cant stop it when you go and break and it feels like its racing away when you are driving it? i was scared that i wasnt able to stop yesterday or today. someone said it could be the accelerator sticking. we only had it serviced last week, im annoyed in case the garage has done something and in case i complain they wont fix it for nothing. is it too dangerous to drive?

what could be the problem though? do you think its due to the servicing? im scared that the garage will say its not due to them servicing it. it has been just over two tuesdays ago now ive looked at my calendar. they said the car had to go back in for brake cylinder replacement which was supposed to be this tuesday but they let me down as they only had one part come in. i think they had forgotten us as the bloke wasnt on his way when i phoned because they were late to pick up the car. i am not impressed with them already. they were a recommendation too from a friend.

Is it a petrol turbo? If so, could be the turbo seals leaking oil into the exhaust which is igniting.
Diesel ? Overfuelling.

its a petrol 1.4 16v car. checked mat. so you dont think its the accelerator sticking?

Start the car when parked up, kick down on the Accelerator pedal then release your foot, if the car is still revving like hell then the linkage / cable may be sticking, the garage might have disturbed something within the Linkage area under the bonnet. I would get them to come out & sort it on a point of safety.

Then have checked TPS sensor on throttle body and MAF or MAP sensor, and any intake air leaks.

When this was happening on an old Astra of mine, it was a little 'stepper' motor that controlled the idle speed.

Once replaced it was back to normal. However not all cars have such a motor, so that may not be the cause.

Some cars have Summer & Winter settings - check your manual if your car has it.
