At the lights one night, I actually leaned out of my window and informed the driver in front they had their foglights on, they refused to switch them off.
I'm not sure I agree with people being 'done' for it though.

Spotlights and fog lights are not the same thing at all.
There is an offence of using fog lights when visibility is not restricted (and I believe that it is normally dealt with by a non-endorseable fixed penalty),
If you refuse the FPN, you will go to Magistrates' Court. If they are truly spotlights, then they should be E-marked as such and this would provide a slam-dunk defence.

what i meant to say was that in this instance i think what the OP is calling "spot lights" are the fog lights.
Gina, do the lights only come on when you activate a seperate switch to the main headlights / sidelights? Do you have a warning light on dash when they are on? were the lights fitted by the manufacturer or were they put on after purchase?

spotlights/foglights at front are not on at the back unless i put the foglights on so having the spotlights on didnt have anything to do witht eh rear fog lights. i had them on as the weather was bad here yesterday and gives me more visability and so far to the ground that they wouldnt glare other road users

Of course you didnt say you wanted to disrgard comments, but you seemed to be disagreeing that front fogs cause glare to other motorists, so i suggested that you could ignore comments if you wished.
