Radio/cd code

When I started my car the radio wouldnt work , saying enter code.
It has always worked till now and I do not have the code.
what can I do to get the radio to go ( if anything)

Yes the dealer would give you the code as long as you can prove it's your car the stereo is fitted to.

No they are not all the same, it's a unique code to each individual radio (it wouldn't be a very good theft deterrent if all the codes were the same)

And by dealer I mean a main dealer for the make of your car,

That's why you have just been told to go to a dealer that sells your type of car.

Youwill also need the instructions of how to enter your code, The code is for the radio not the car.

I`ve heard that if you put the radio in a freezer for 24hrs it wipes the code and you can put a new one in.

There a lot of sites where you can get your code but you have to give your serial no. etc. Is it safe to give this info online?

Yes.
You need radio make, model and serial no from the sticker on it.

if u remove the radio from the car the number is on a white sticker its normally stuck on the top of your radio

OH heck sounds to complicated for me

guess I will have to be without a radio or pay through the nose at my dealer to get the code.
Thought it would simpler than taking the radio out.
Thought the car serial number would be enough.
very fed up now :-(

To use the online sites you need to take the radio out of its mounting (to access the serial number).

However, as long as the radio is the original one which the car was supplied with, the manufacturer will have the code on a database related to the registration number of your car. All you need to do is to contact a main dealer for your make of vehicle and ask them to supply the code which is linked to your vehicle's registration. They can get the code from the manufacturer (so you won't have to remove the radio).

Up until recently I worked for a Ford main dealer. They usually charged £15 to supply a radio code.

carlton , experience tells me it doesn't work lol , btw it was mine out of my renault laguna from years ago i found in my cupboard was never going to use it just wanted to test the theory the stereo still worked though :-s

it is the original radio, and the car a Nissan,

would most dealers charge about the same £15 ish?

Would be willing to fork out that much as cant stand silence while driving

Thanks for the reply. I've only worked for a Ford dealer but I'd expect a Nissan dealer to charge roughly the same amount, or possibly a bit less. (NB: When you get the code make sure you ask how you should enter it into the radio. The method varies between radios).

yes I have checked in my manual and seems that even I will be able to enter it correctly lol

dont really know why the radio stopped in the first place. had the car 6 yrs and never had a problem.
