Vauxhall Astria dashboard light?

Can someone tell me what the yellow light on the dashboard means?.Its looks like an engine with a spark through it.What does it mean when it comes on?What needs fixing?..Thanks for the help

Check your owners manual, it will give you all these details

It's to do with the engine managemnet system and if it comes on it means there is a fault in the system, the car may drive ok, but I would get it checked

Well i dont have a manual as if i did i would have looked into it.Nothing in the haynes book either

This indicates that a fault has been detected in the ignition or fuel system. The light being on means that there is an error code stored in the Engine Management Computer. A garage with a Tech 1 machine can interrogate the EMC and diagnose the fault. This is usually only something a Vauxhall main dealer will have.

However, you can buy a device for about �10 from Halfords which can help read the error code.

It indicates an engine management fault. You need to take it to a garage with a code reader that will plug in to your EOBD or (OBD) ((european) on board diagnostic) socket on the car. This will tell you what the fault is, could just be something silly like a sensor off, or could be something serious, either way, needs checking out. Ring round your local garages to find out if they have an engine diagnostic machine (eg.like a Bosch KTS) and get an idea of price, they usually charge by the hour for fault finding. Don't automatically assume it's a dealership only thing as you'll pay a fortune!  Good luck
