misfire on m reg laguna 2.0 rxe

my renault laguna 2.0 rxe is misfiring on cylinder no 2 only , i have changed plugs and ignition leads and proved there is a spark.


and now believe there could be problem within the head gasket somewere (shifters ?) i have very little engine knowledge any suggestions/solutions will be very appriciated

If you're certain that the spark plugs, leads and distributor are okay and the misfire is only happening on No.2 cylinder then it might be worth having a compression test.  This will confirm whether a valve or headgasket has gone.

Another thing, is the car fuel injected?  A faulty injector would make it misfire too if no fuel is coming out, or if it's squirting rather than spraying.  What colour is the No.2 spark plug?  Sooty?  Wet?

Check your engine oil level; any coolant in the oil?  Any gases getting in the coolant expansion tank?  White/Blue smoke coming out of the exhaust?
