dvla took my licence 4years later?
i received a ban from driving back in june 2000.
just before my ban period was up i received my licence and continued to drive when my period was finished.
i received a letter from the dvla on 17/02/05 stating;
we have recently received notifacation from essex police that in addition to being disqualified from driving by north east essex magistrates on 21/06/2000 for 12months you were ordered to retake an extended driving test.
i am now in receipt of amended notification from the court. therefore the above licence no longer covers you to drive and must be returned to the centre for cancellation immediately.
on receipt arrangements will be made to issue you with a provisinal driving licence.
I was never informed of retaking a test and my licence was posted back to me almost to the day of my year ban.
the implications of this are huge!
can they do this?????

You would have signed this, received a copy and this should detail the length of ban plus any additional provisos such as retaking a test etc.
Did you have a solicitor representing you ? If so, he/she should have written a summary letter to you after the court hearing detailing and confirming the sentence details.
Having said all that I have had problems with information passed by a Court to the DVLA in the past so the system is clearly not error-free..
