jaguar power steering
my jaguar x type is in the garage with a power steering leek problem
its just the hose rather than the pump
but they are saying its £350.00 for the hose
this is an independent garage rather than a main dealer
he is trying to put the old hose on but says its tricky
any views / ideas ??

You're probably being quoted for genuine Jaguar parts.
Pattern parts made to the same spec just not bought through Jaguar are likely to be much cheaper
Not one of these at 70 quid is it?

Try your local Pirtek

They will do a good job miles cheaper than a garage (especially if you can get the car to one of their locations).

Pirtek ... Check the local outlet/mobile service.
They can call by and make it there. Get the old one off first.
They won't charge more than 60-70 even if they call, I should think.
Either that or a local Hydraulic specialist that does farm/agricultural hydraulics. They usually have all the ends and bends, etc.
It 'could' even be made in Aeroquip if needed.

thanks for all your help
i have dealt with pirtek for industrial hoses - never even thought to ask them anyway
in the end the mechanic managed to re use old hose with a new fitting
and it was £80.00 all in - i think he spent about 4 hrs on it in total
so it wasnt too bad - a lot of that time was bleeding it - and there is still a bit of air in it now
