I have recently bought a 1997 Audi A3 1.8 Sport (non-turbo) with about 100k on the clock. From outside the car the engine makes a quite noticeable rattly sound, not unlike a diesel. The cam/timing belt has been changed within the last 10k miles. Is this excess noise a cause for concern?

Loose exhaust/cat heat shield?

Could be something to do with exhaust manifold, but the sound seems to be coming from the valve-gear or in that area - engine has hydraulic tappets (apparently), perhaps these were affected during the cam belt change?
