High pressure pump

Partner's diesel car "died" last week. Garage has told him the high pressure pump needs replacing and quoted over £700. Just wondered if anyone knew if this sounds right. Seems pricey to me but I know nothing about cars.

Did you by chance go to a main dealer?

If so you will be being quoted for a brand new manufacturers pump.

A pattern part made (sometimes in the same factory) without the branding may be much cheaper.

quite possible , but a bit more info would help, i paid £1,500 for a NON genuine vauxhall injector pump, genuine was £2,500 !...

It's a 1.6 Ford Fiesta. Not at a main dealer - local garage has it.

Quite feasable. Many are well over £1000 .. Ford, for instance, just as expensive as any other.

For info, garage has now said this is the FIFTH diesel car with the same problem in a week. Apparently the very cold weather is making the diesel thick and older cars (over 8yrs) can't cope with it. Be warned!!

UK diesel hasn't been subject to freezing up for years. They add anti gelling agents at the refinery and adjust the levels according to the weather forecasts. Ask them to explain how cars work in places such as canada where the temps regularly drop to minus 30 / 40. Has he been waiting for the glow plug light to go out before starting?

no way should he be having problems with the diesel its no where near cold enough in this country

Interesting you say that. The glow plugs & the relay have had to be replaced as well.

Lots of people buy diesels, don't read the handbook and try to start them from cold.
