Enough to control the weather?
I don`t really see that the government can do. All the companies involved are private so it is up to them to get their act together.
Not only this Government,EVERY Government over the last 50 years.!!
oh diddums, no christmas presents and holidays abroad......
Missing or late xmas parcels ... tough titty. I know it's a shame that Xmas snuck up on most people without so much as a whole year's notice, but it does always seem to occur sometime in the Winter ... blah blah blah ... you see where I'm going with this?

Another point, has online shopping ruined xmas? Hmm.
Mother Nature will triumph every time - seemples!
Anything goes wrong blame the government, rubbish.

Apart from BAA, where do the funds come from? Oxfam?
What funds exactly?
I get the impression that ABers are a cynical lot and can see right through the xmas scam. So why does it keep on happening. After all the joy of the season is about making someone you love smile. You dont need expensive pressies for that. Just stop listening to the hype!
As for the traffic chaos no one seems to have mentioned that this country is approaching gridlock even if the roads were all treated the jams would soon clog them up and xmas shopping scams just aggravate the problems.
Get used to it Britain it ain't going to change it will just get worse as Homer said.
The real problem is that in the UK we 'might' get a bit of snow, so it doesn't warrant a massive capital investment. When I used to drive to Austria, there were no problems as they knew they were going to get 10 feet of the stuff, so the various agencies are prepared...marker poles go out on the motorways in October, there are massive fleets of snowploughs and gritters, there is a large workforce of men whose job is to clear snow from paths, laybys etc. It warrants the capital investment. Over here we have had 2 bad (for us) winters. Lets say the government throws a massive amount of money at it...£50million +. We can buy ploughs, gritters, specialised kit for airports etc...then we have 10 'mild' winters. Everyone will be up in arms "What a waste of money "etc...until the next time. The government, whatever the colour, are in a no win situation.Oh, and where would we get the workforce of manual labourers? Fly them in from Poland, 'cos it seems to me that most Brits don't want to do physical work!

You certainly don't!

As a matter of interest, are you incapable of making someone you love smile at other times of the year...?

I blame this coalition government. We didn't get weather like this when Labour were in office.
I was particularly Nnoyed at the BBC newsreader's line of questioning to the transport minister last night. How on earth can anyone prepare for a freak 90 minute blizzard?
