Car insurance on new car and car warranty

I have been quoted by the mercedes insurance company for my new smart car. They are saying that if I go to another insurer and he does not used recognised smart parts, then the warranty will not be valid. In other words, use them as most of the insurance companies these days have their own garages and do not always use the authorised parts for the car. This means of course I will have to stay with Mercedes insurance for a couple of years at least, although hopefully I will not be having any accidents. Has anyone else had this problem.

They all try different things and say things to keep your business.
Get other quotes from everywhere else as the rest of us ... who buy new from dealers do.

What a load of old rubbish. If you needed to, you go to a garage which DOES have your car's parts, but you shouldn't be confined to the dealership. I've had cars in warranty and I've insured them wherever I get the best deal. They're just trying to keep your business - don't be flannelled.

ps i just traded in my smart for a mercedees and the buggers "forgot" to tell me that i HAVE to have my servicing with them (they do it all electronically, so no service book)

Aw, that's not good, bednobs - I'm coming away from the dealership for my next service now that my Daithatsu is out of warranty, it's certainly more expensive than other garages - the only bonus is that the dealers can get the parts more easily, if needed.

Well thanks all, having slept on it I had decided not to listen to them anyway and stay with my present insurers until my next renewal date, as they always charge you a penalty for cancelling halfway and they are not much different to the others in their quote for the new car.

Note your comment Jake on the EU, that is about all we have got to thank the EU for, it is a joke that they can tell us what to do anyway!!!

The papers work very hard to keep the EU's work from you.

Cheaper international phone calls - thank the EU last year

Budget airlines - think of what happened to Freddie Laker and thank the EU

Can you see the UK government (or any national government) having the guts - or ability to take on and fine the likes of Micrososft?

The EU do an awful lot - just don't expect to read about it in the tabloids because they're run by people like Murdoch who want to break the EU so that they can do as they like!

except i'm not so sure what they are doing is illegal. I have the car for a three year period, on one of those personal plans, and have to either give it back at the end, or pay the balloon payment. As part of the contract, if you dont have full mercedes service history at the end, you have to pay over £1000!
