My car has developed a creaking sound when pulling away in 1st gear. It sometimes does it when changing up the gears but not as loud or for as long as from take off. i am guessing its something to do with vibrations of pulling away. it's been sat for a while until this morning when it was taken to MOT, I noticed the sound, I have checked for anything in the boot which could be knocking and there is nothing in there that could be causing it. I have had a brief look under the car but can't see anything out of the ordinary, its a front wheel drive car. any suggestions appreciated. thanks.

Yeah - turn the radio up :-)

Did you mention it to the garage?
Question Author
haha, radios not working either, it doesn't like being left in the cold car apparently. nope forgot to mention it to garage. :-(
That's a bummer.

Can you not give them a quick ring?
Creaky suspension ?
Question Author
i did think suspension, if it were to be suspension, how would i stop the sound without having to replace it or is it just case of replacing it?
Question Author
bearing in mind, when i push the car down with my hands and bounce it (if that makes any sense) the creaking is not there which made me think it might not be suspension. :-/
Might be something along these lines benny ! ;-)

Check all engine and gearbox mounts.
Look under the bonnet Benny, on the Left / Right you can see the Suspension struts, get a tin of WD40 and spray some in the area of the inner of the Strut, this should work it's way to the rubbers on each side it sounds as if the rubbers are dry. if the car has passed it's test there is no problems at the lower torsion bar rubbers so you can rule that out.
Look like he could do with an "earring" test from that advert!
Have you got the car insured yet Benny?
Question Author
Nope, not yet dodger, haven't passed my driving test yet. :-(
Benny, How did you get the car to the MOT then, drive it uninsured?

As for your creaking noise, possibly it will disappear after driving in the rain.
You mean you car is RUNNING!!!?
Question Author
Yes albags, my car is indeed running (amazing isn't it lol) with no defects apart from the creaking which i'll probably get used to, my sister drove it to MOT for me on temporary insurance.
Since I answered this my car has started creaking when I pull off....I blame you Benny..!!

Can I hijack your Q for min Benny?
Its not an Essex blonde car is it? sounds like the Chelmsford girl I knew, after the night before.
Question Author
lol ummmm, err i mean ooops sorry, yes of course you can. :-)
I know nothing about the mechanics of cars but nevertheless I think you have a loose fixing on the exhaust pipe. I say this only because I have a section of the exhaust on my car which has passed its MOT with the part held in place with wire.( A piece of welding rod.) and there is a vibratory sound at 'take-off' which then disappears; often before engaging 2nd gear.

Cheers Benny...hopefully Al will come back..

Before the MOT there was no creaking...but since then I get it from take off...it's fine after a few minutes...

In the MOT they replaced the 'strut mount' both front and the 'strut mount' osr.

Any connection? (Ford KA)
