My road tax runs out tomorrow, coincidently so does my current MOT, however - after trying to do it online - its saying that the electronic search is not finding any MOT - as i have the certificate here in front of me i am wondering if maybe there needs to be a certain amount of time left on the MOT?
i will have to MOT it tomorrow and then get the road tax - just find it strange as its still legally 'in date'
thanks for any replies

You will need at least 6 months left on MOT so you can buy 6 months tax. It's not actually 6 months as they allow you to MOT it one month before tax runs out.

My car got MOT'd on Wednesday...failed...fixed on Thursday...taxed on Friday because it runs out Monday.

Surely you need to get an MOT before your road tax runs out
yes you do, the DVLA will not issue you a new tax disc until they see a current MOT on the system. One day won't count.

marko1 - yes i KNOW that - i wrote it in my Q - i just wanted to know if there was a certain amount of time that HAD to be remaining on your current MOT!
i am fully aware that you cannot have a tax disc before you show the MOT!
that was NOT my question
No doubt the answer would be here

http://www.taxdisc.di...vlPortalApp/index.jsp

but the techies have the bonnet up and are tinkering with the giblets
Oops- this is what happens when you leave things to the last minute - difficulties.

gingejbe - is that an 'answer'???
...it's an observation and a reply.....
Question Author
well - i dont care about your observations or reply - i just wanted an honest answer to a straight forward question! i dont want self righteous opinions thank you very much!
we cant all have simple lives where money is on tap and we can afford to get our MOT done weeks before it needs to be done! mine is still INDATE so cant see the problem - people like you annoy me - if you cannot supply the answer then best to say f**k all!

Well, at least I remained polite and didn't sink to that level.
Mmm. Anger management classses might be needed.

thank god for Ummmm i say! correct information, non judgmental, ........... simple xx

ginge............ THAT is what a Q and A forum is all about!
....and winding people up, and I may have succeeded....
i don't necessarily think Ummm's answer is correct. Your MOT has to be valid on the day the tax starts (in your case tuesday) - that's why it wont let you
Question Author
well - Ummms answer may or may not be correct BUT it was correct in her situation and to be fair - it was the only constructive answer i had apart from the link - which i am grateful for too.
i dont need anger management its just that some people 'ginge' by their won admission come on to wind people up and then pat themselves on their back when they think they have 'suceeded' - in my opinion there was nothing wrong with my question? simple and straight forward? and i (over the last 7 years on here) have abided by the rule that if you cant say something helpful - then DONT SAY ANYTHING - unless its a chatty thread where personal opinions are welcomed.
Once again - thanks Ummmm
Bednobs....On my MOT note it said that I couldn't get my next MOT until 24th Jan 12.

Plenty of times I have had MOT for 6 months and then taxed my car for 12. Since it all went electronic I presumed it had changed.
you can have an MOT whenever you like!
Yes you can...but will the DVLA except it? Like I said...taxed my car Friday on-line. DVLA knew my car was MOT'd and insured as it's all on a database. So will they allow you to tax a car that only has a few days valid MOT left....doubtful.
If you want to tax your car from 1st March you need an MOT that is valid on the 1st March.
As yours runs out on the 28th February it will no longer be valid on the 1st March.
Simples.
The techies have put the bonnet down now.

See the second from last question, which confirms Bedknobs and Graham W
