cooling system fault

I have a vauxhall Zafira 1.8 auto. I recently noticed that the cooling fan cuts in when the engine get to the operating temperature and stays on until the engine is switched off.Is it normal for the fan to stay on or not? Please help folks

If you mean it stays on after you have switched off the engine, that is quite common on cars.

If it stops after a while thats normal. The engine bay will hotter when the car has stopped rather than using natural ventelation when moving.

What I mean is that when the cooling fan cuts in, it does not cut out whether I am driving or stop. It simply stays on until the engine is switched off. I taught that the fan is meant to cut in and out to maintain the operating temperature.

A friend is got a Toyota Avensis 1.8 saloon 1999. He says his car has a timing belt and I say it has a timing chain. who is right? Please help

Replace coolant temp sensor.
