Focus speedo problems

Hi have a  1999 Focus.Recently had problems with the speedo not working intermittently. A couple of weeks ago battery light started to come on and eventually car cut out and could not be restarted without charging battery but it did not hold charge for long. Was told it was a problem with the alternator and such was replaced. However have  started to get the same problem with the speedo. Are these problems linked, or is it coincidenceand if so what is likely to be the cause? Thanks I would appreciate the help.

i had same problem.  its a speedo sensor in the gearbox

 

it cost �60 fitted
