why do drivers put on they're rear fog light when its raining and other driversdo not put on any lights at all when it is nightime thats a two questions that has puzzled me for sometime now can aynbody answer the question for me

Because they are ignorant of the Highway Code- and very inconsiderate. That's the mild answer.

i dont do it but i can understand how they do.
sometimes when im driving on our dual carraigeway in the pouring rain it can be hard to see rear lights of the car in front due to the spray. it can be the same if it is dinging down snow. so i suppose they just want to let you see them in front of you.

Coz they don't know where the rear fog light switch is - some people manage to drive with it on permanently.

Because the drivers who do these stupid things along with a lot of other stupid things are just stupid, no amount of ranting on here will ever make any difference to them.

with the rear fog lights thing i think that it is a genuine misunderstanding of the highway code and/or stupidity but with the front fog lights on with no main beam(especially bmw's) i put it down to the fact they think it looks cool,in a' look at me way'.

is main beam not normal driving lights,and when the blue light is on high beam,i thought main beam was normal lights as its on more than high beam ????

Around where I live I think there's is a daily competition, well two actually. In the morning it's who can turn their lights off first, and in the evening who can leave it the latest before they have to turn their lights on.

Not sure how the prizes are claimed but they must be worth something judging by the vast number of motorists who play these games.

In answer to the first part of Bob's question, I thought fog lights, be they front or rear, are only to be used when visibility is below 100 metres, or is it yards?

I'd like to know if the average motorist knows how long 100 metres is? Personally, I'd like to see all drivers who buy a car with fog lights be given an IQ test to prove they are up to the resposibility of being able to use them!
