My car is an mot failure, and the tax disc expired a day ago. I cannot get it scrapped until the weekend, will I be liable for a fine?

no,just send the bit back to the dvla that says you have scrapped the car and date it the 1st and post it 2nd class,you will be ok

As long as you inform the DVLC and the car is NOT parked on a public highway, then you'll be ok.
