Is it illegal to drive into a puddle and splash a pedestrian? I was always told that it was but i've never heard of anyone being taken to court.

i hope not! the only enjoyment i get from life is when i see our local town councillor / mayor walking to work on a wet day. he always seems to be at the right point as i pass a big puddle :)
From the Crown Prosecution website:
"Examples of conduct appropriate for a charge of driving without reasonable consideration are:
....
driving through a puddle causing pedestrians to be splashed"

Yes - I know someone who was succesfully prosecuted for this. They were driving down the road, several times to catch someone they didnt like walking past the biggest puddle in the road ! there was also another one locally, he could have avoided the puddle and the woman he splashed was clearly right next to it. She was awarded her dry cleaning costs too !
I can assure you, that apart from the incident where a cat got trapped in the bakers van, that is indeed the most interesting bit of news to come out of Charlton Mackrell this century.
What happened to the cat GS? I'm really worried now.
lol.......

genuine story for you Panic. My mum has some ducks delivered to the farm. Blackberry her favourite cat was intrigued by the van of ducks and jumped in. No one noticed. Van heads back off to cornwall, van man opens door and blackberry jumps out and runs away.

It was a similar story to that!
Near us there is a village with some ponds.

There is a hand painted sign in large letters:

CAUTION. DUCKS CROSSING.

In smaller letters, as an afterthought they have added
'and children'
Don't know why I told you that, it has nothing to do with it.

Once I looked out and saw that, as often happens, the dustcart had parked up for the lads to have a tea break.

Sitting happily smiling at me was our cat, comfortably settled in on the spare wheel.
