Points and insurance.
7 Answers
I know this topic has been covered with Tammy's question some time ago. Slightly different points though!
Here the thing: had an accident a few days ago, car we believe will be wrote off so when I received the claim paper work I was filling it out along side my policy when I noticed that the three point I wrote to inform them of back in october have not been added to my statement of insurance. Now having had an accident it is gonna look very suspect if I now ring them up and tell them, I think they will refuse to pay out! Anyone who works in insurance with any idea how this would pan out if I ring them and tell them, or do I just mark a no on the claim form and hope for the best? I am very worried as there were a number of vehicles involved. It is believed the accident is caused by malfunction on the RH front wheel. Can someone help soonest before I totally mess this up and pick the wrong way to go? Like Tammy before, I cannot afford to pay for all the vehicles involved... can anyone advise the pro's & cons here... really worried as I dont think they will believe I genuinly tried to inform them, they were the ones who said just pop it in the post to us?
Thanks in advance...

I have a copy on computer yes, as for the taped call! I have thought about that, there were no questions about my account, I told them why I was calling them and they then told me to post it, if there is any monies to be paid they will be in touch, nothing ever came of it so I thought, hey, three points maybe no extra required, bit naive looking back!
When my insurance came, as everyone does I think, I opened it, saw what it was and put it with all my other car docs. Its only now filling the form in that I have noticed its not there!

I work in the fraud unit of an insurer. 3 points generally don't make any difference - that's not to say you shouldn't disclose them!
I assume it's an SP30 or the like.
We get so many of these, and the calls are always listened to (assuming the poxy system recorded that day!). If you disclosed it, but they neglected to do anything, not your fault. If you didn't declare it (I'm as guilty of forgetting as the next man), then the worst they should do is add a small additional premium charge - this is assuming you haven't got any other points already disclosed, it's nothing worse than a speeding conviction, and you don't have hundreds of previous claims.
