Picking a hire car from dublin airport is there anything i need to know about road rules i/e are there road tolls, is petrol cheaper in the north or south, am i ok to drive in the south on my uk driving licence

Yes - there are toll roads and there is definately one on the main road from Dublin to Belfast. It is however very fast flowing and the toll is nothing more than a couple of euro.
Petrol used to be a lot cheaper in the south but not so much now.
Drivers licence is fine to cover you in the South in the same way as it would if you were dring anywhere else in Europe.
PS - they drive on the left hand side of the road too!! ;0)
