Puffin/pelican crossings

I'm having trouble trying to remember the difference between puffin and pelican crossings for my theory test.

Can someone explain the difference, what lights you would find at these crossings, what order the lights go in and who can use them.

You presumably know the sequence of lights at standard traffic lights. Put this phrase into your mind: "PUFFINS ARE NORMAL!". That should help you remember that, as far as the motorist is concerned, puffin crossings are exactly the same as 'standard' traffic lights.

Here's another phrase to learn: "PELICANS ARE FLASHERS!". That should help you remember that pelican crossings are the same as standard traffic lights except that the red-&-amber phase is replaced with a flashing amber light. (That, of course, means that you can move off if there are no pedestrians still on the crossing. However, irrespective of what the theory says, a careful motorist should always be alert to the possibility of a pedestrian dashing across the road while the lights are flashing).

Chris - that is an easier way of remembering them! It is the lights that I get muddled up with so thats a good way of differentiating them! Thank you
