Parking Fine Appeal.

Has any one ever contested a parking fine, and been let off. And if so , what was your excuse. Or do you know what reasons they may find acceptable ??

There are all kinds of situations and locations which can incur a parking fine:

For example: On a public road (yellow lines etc)
In a car park (no ticket displayed etc)
In a residents only bay

Etc, etc, etc,. What were your circumstances? You don't say.

I once parked on double yellow lines infront of a gated access. I appealed on the grounds that the access was no longer used and therefore the yellow lines were redundant. The appeal was upheld.

i was just late back. In a proper parking bay, not causing obstruction or anything. Was wondering if there was a way of blagging by saying lost kids in town or something lol

I know it's a pain but I don't think they'll buy some **** and bull story - they've heard them all before.

Once I parked literally for 5 minutes to pop into the paper shop - parked in a side road on a yellow line - the traffic warden must have been watching.

I contested the ticket because the warden got the make of my car wrong - instead of a Ford Fusion they put a Ford Fiesta - and I got off.

I know its a bit naughty, but if you know someone with a disabled badge - send a photocopy of the badge with a letter contesting the ticket saying this was displayed.

It does work !!

It is always worth a try. You can appeal it and at the worse you will still have to pay the same amount anyway (certain time limits though so read your letter). I have appealed a few times and have been successful some of these times. The last one went back and forth for nine months and I got off in the end. I totally didnt know it was a pay and display area because last time I had parked there it wasnt.

When I ran a railway station, we had a car on our car park for several days over its allotted time. We didn't charge for the excess parking because the owner had used one of our trains but then dropped dead when he got off at Liverpool Street!

If you can think of something equally dramatic you might get off ;-)

Incidentally, be wary of trying to state that there was a valid ticket (or disabled pass) displayed. Most parking officials now carry digital cameras and photograph all vehicles contravening the regulations, so that such claims can be disproved.

Just pay up its easier. You admit that you are in the wrong so Im afraid you are going to have to live with it. Start telling lies and making false statements and you are going to end up in a right mess.

i got a parking ticket and appealed and didn't have to pay

i'd parked in a street late at night. it was single yellow and i checked the signs and at the top of the road where thre was double yellows it had no parking.

at the bottom of the road where i parked on the single line it had a pay and display ticket machine and small signes every few metres saying something it was fine to park after 7pm till 8am.

so we put a few pound in the metre so it would cover us till after 8am. to give us time to get ready and leave. went down to the metre before 8 just to put more money in the machine. don't know why but we were already paid up.

went down to top up the ticket and all was fine. came back 20 mins later. still within the time and we had a ticket.

apparently the whole street was no parking. but i was like why have a ticket machine and signs saying times you can park.

was glad when i got the letter saying i didn't have to pay. every car on that street had been ticketed.

most parking wardens take photos now so if you lie about a disabled badge they will know,so be careful of that stupid advise.

LOL i paid straight away online when i got home. I was just wondering thats all. It was the actual Traffic Warden himself that suggested writing in , bless him. He was new at the job, think he felt guilty.

I got let off after being at work longer than usual due to daylight-saving-time change. I had to stay for 'security reasons' in my cash collection job as the safe opening was delayed by 1 hour. They were reasonable on this occasion. I think it makes a huge difference where you are.
