driving without insurance
5 Answers
I was driving my mother's car with her permission when I was stopped by the police. I produced my own insurance certificate on a car which I had returned under a hire contract earlier but on which I am still paying the premiums. I did not own any other car at the time I was stopped. The police say I am not covered by my own insurance. Are they right?
Also, although I am not a named driver on my mother's comp car insurance, there is nothing on her insurance certificate to say that I do not have the benefit of 3rd party cover on her car insurance, so am I covered by her insurance ? McCool

You Mums insurance wouldn't cover you unless you are named on it. If they allowed cover for you, then your mum could insure her rusty little ford for £200 and then you could drive your £100,000 lexus. EVERY insurer would go bust if they offered that kind of cover.
