incorrectly indicating

if I'm approaching a roundabout and someone on my right is also approaching it and is indicating left (leaving the roudabout clear for me to ctrross) but then goes on round the roundabout and hits me whos fault would it be ?
Yes I nearly had a crack up tonight and had to resist the firm temtation to get out of my car while i was blocking her path and tell the stpud driver of that uneccesary 4X4 just how indicators are supposed to be used, and that owning a 4X4 does not make you lord of the raods or give you permission to disregard other users.
I'm seriously considering CCTV in my car, I'm fed up with people that indicate one thing and then do another, if therer is an accicdent it's my word against hers.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I think it is statisticly known that 4X4 drivers are the less considerate, and I add stupid, gerally a 4X4 is owned by someone who earns enough to run such a monstrousity of fuel comsumption, repair costs and taxation (not heavy enough as they are still on the roads!). Such people mostly (not all) have jobs and lives that have very little to do with day to day practicaslies and become so far removed from being practical and exerting common sense on everyday problems that they loose the ability to drive with consideration and provide appropriate information about what the hell they think they are doing.
As an electronics technician I'm well aware of "communication protocols" this applies in all aspects of life from engineering to road use. Most people seem to thinks that on the road the two forms of protocoll that work are 1: you can read my mind/I don't give a toss and 2: I'm indicating as I commit and that makes my bad actions right ones.
The bottom line is that most people don't care about anyone on the road or in any other situation. All this nation knows about is me, me and yet more ME!!!. It's a pity most people don't realize just how little the rest of us would miss them should they kill themselves driving carelessly.

graham, yes she did cancel her signal, she had clearly left it on after leaving the dual carriage way via a slip road (which is less of a neccesary signal than that telling me where on the roundabout she wantyed to go) and her signal was cancelled forcifully by the mecanism in the steering colum when she changed direction ON the roudabout by which time it was too late.
well having read the highway code linked to it actually said more about drivers making sure they indicate properly and do not mis represent their intentions. Yes it did say to be aware that indications may change at the last minute (a get out of jail clause for the writer ?). if we go by the rule that you don't know until the intended action has been taken then to be honest car manufacturers might as well save them and us the cost of indicators and not install them. If indicators are not legally binding in an accident they should not be on cars.
Personally I'd have every car fitted with a black box run off satelite clock (as used by satnavs) so that peoples otherwise documented stupidity can be brough to light

Your rant at the top of the page however wasn't and bordered on the edge of rudeness. De facto you probably insulted a few of us around here. I have had a Merc SUV and a Cayenne and other SUVs in my time, though at the moment I run around here in a A3. They were aprops for the environment I was in and gas-guzzlers - well I would challenge that as my Porsche (the Cayenne Turbo) ran at about what my A3T does....also I rather like cars and was involved on the fringes of Formula 1 for a while...... And just because some of us have decent jobs, command good salaries doesn't mean that we are out of touch with reality. Indeed, I would argue we actually have a better appreciation of society in being able to see it from many levels.
There are many bad practices on the roads - people coming right up your rear end (if they were to be hit from behind?), jumping lights, hogging the middle lane or overtaking lane of the motorway, parking in disabled spots - I can go on virtually endlessly.
Seriously, chill out on this - there are more important things in life, certainly for me, and I am sure this is true for you.
And lastly, fear not, most of us do not know the Highway Code to the n'th degree - even the boys in blue can be caught out....

Don't know about you Thunderchild but ma mind-reading abilities are not what they should be. Without indicators, what would you have us do? Close wir eyes and hope for the best? Say a wee prayer and hope for divine intervention? .

no as the others said, as your not trusting indicators anyhow (the whole reason for this discussion) you sit and wait to make certain where the car is going hpysically. To be honest if people used roudabouts correctly they'd hardly need to indicate. most use indicators to justify their abrupt maneuvers that could leave you standing - literally
