Annual Car Costs Double In Ten Years

15:36 Mon 24th May 2010 |

The average car now costs more than twice as much to run as it did ten years ago, says new motor insurance company research.

With increases in fuel, motor insurance, servicing, taxes and fines, costs have now risen to an average £2,053 a year.

However, motor insurance providers have said there are easy way to cut down this amount for those who take a little effort.

"It is becoming increasingly expensive to drive, but taking a few simple steps such as shopping around for motor insurance quotes could save you hundreds of pounds," said a motor insurance spokeswoman.

With petrol prices remaining high, it is more than worth driving to out of the way petrol stations where a litre of fuel can be up to ten pence cheaper.

Servicing can be another heavy cost if you don't find the best provider, with franchised dealers charging on average 33 per cent more for work which is often poor quality and sometimes outright dangerous.

And many drivers could save hundreds of pounds by shopping around for the best value motor insurance quotes. A simple internet search is well worth it to find the best deals.
