The majority of motor insurance customers would not be tempted to give up their own vehicles and join a car club in order to save money, new research has revealed.
A study by a website promoting green car issues found nearly two thirds of drivers would be reluctant to take this course of action. However, the online resource claimed car clubs have come a long way over recent years.
Figures from Car Plus revealed there are currently nearly 50 such organisations in over 35 towns and cities across the UK - and these groups have over 64,000 members.
The editor of the website suggested more drivers should consider the benefits of joining such a scheme.
She stated: "Car clubs offer considerable carbon savings over car ownership, as well as providing attractive financial savings, creating an opportunity for motorists to save themselves serious money and to be considerate to the environment."
A car club is where you book the hire of a car for a certain amount of time, often only a few hours. You pick it up at an allotted parking space, swipe you smart card to get in and use it then return it and pay for the time you have used.
