Millions Of Kids At Risk In Cars

Millions of parents are putting their children's safety at risk in the car, says recent motor insurance research.

Motor insurance researchers found that over half of all parents would not check a child seat after they had an accident, compared to 92 per cent who said that they would remember to check their lights.

Almost half of all parents who responded to the motor insurance poll said that they would not change their child safety seat after an accident, despite safety campaigners and motor insurance groups recommending that they do so.

"Parents should replace child car seats if the seat has already prevented a child from being injured. A child car seat may look safe but depending on its history, it may offer little or no protection," said a motor insurance spokesman.

"If parents are in any doubt, they should buy a new seat and also make sure that it is compatible with their car and fitted correctly."

Some insurance policies now offer cover for replacement child seats in the event of a collision, or for incidents of fire or theft.
