Greater Manchester's rejection of the proposed congestion charge is a victory for cash-strapped motorists who are already shelling out car insurance, fuel and vehicle excise duty, it has been claimed.
The Association of British Drivers (ABD) has welcomed recent news that residents in all ten council areas voted against the road pricing scheme.
It stated the fact people had said no - despite a multi-million pound campaign in favour of the initiative by the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities and Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority - is testament to how unpopular the idea is.
An ABD spokesman commented: "The world was watching the people of Manchester and they have seen through the great government transport bribe and voted to reject road pricing."
He stated he hoped future plans to introduce congestion charging would now be scrapped. The government must cease its determined campaign to charge us to drive on roads we have already paid for many times over. Road pricing can only work when people do not have a choice of routes - such as when travelling over the Severn Bridge.
